Q. Do I qualify to rent a car? A. Renters are usually required to be at least 25 years of age, with a major credit card in their name and a valid driver's license. Q. Can additional drivers use the rental car? A. Allowances and surcharges vary by each rental location. You are responsible for all damage, regardless of fault, to the rental vehicle except for ordinary wear and tear.
LIABILITY INSURANCE QUESTIONS
Q. Will I be covered for liability in the rental agreement? A. The vehicle you rent through your Ford rental department includes liability coverage equal to your state's minimum financial responsibility (MFR) limits. Each state has various limits. Generally, this insurance will cover a liability loss only after your personal auto liability insurance limits are exhausted and in many instances, only if that coverage is less than the state's MFR limits. Exceptions would be in states that require the rental's MFR liability coverage to take effect prior to your personal auto insurance liability policy. Also, liability coverage for intra-family claims is not covered in most states.
Q. When I rent a vehicle, isn't the vehicle already covered under my personal auto insurance? A. Some policies fully cover rental vehicles, some partially cover rental vehicles, but some don't cover rental vehicles at all. Before renting, review your auto policy carefully and speak to your personal insurance agent to ensure that you understand your coverage.
Q. Does your rate include liability insurance above state limits? A. No, such liability insurance is not a part of the daily rental fee. But your Ford rental department in many cases can provide you with a choice of options. You may elect additional Liability Insurance Coverage (for a daily charge) and protect yourself and your assets against bodily injury and property damage claims.
COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER QUESTIONS
Q. I've checked and rentals are covered by my auto insurance policy. Why should I consider electing the optional Collision Damage Waiver? A. Collision Damage Waiver waives your responsibility for theft of (where permitted by law) or damage to the rental vehicle. If your rental vehicle is damaged or stolen, you're covered without having to make any claim against your personal auto insurance policy. CDW allows you to minimize the risk of higher premium costs or cancellation. (CDW is not insurance and typically is a waiver for the entire damage.). However, some locations may offer a partial waiver, in which case you will be responsible for the first $1,500.00 in damages.
Q. Does your rate include Collision Damage Waiver? A. It is not an automatic part of your daily rental fees. Your Ford rental department is providing you with a choice of options. They are: rely on your own policy, rely on your credit card coverage, or elect the Collision Damage Waiver (for a daily charge) to waive your responsibility for damage to your rental vehicle, providing the loss or damage did not result from any prohibited use or rental agreement violation.
Q. What about the "exclusions and exceptions" of my credit card insurance? A. Many credit cards do not cover many types of vans, SUV's, trucks or other vehicles. They also generally have specific time limits under which you are covered for a rental. Before assuming that you're adequately covered with your credit card, check the terms of your credit card agreement carefully.
Q. How much is your Collision Damage Waiver? A. The daily cost of CDW will deviate by rental department, the state where you rent, and type of vehicle you choose. Typically charges could vary from $9.00 per day to $20.00 per day.
Q. I want to know the total price of the rental including insurance, before I place my reservation. A. Once you have determined the rental location for your reservation request, you will be able to acquire more specific information.
Q. What other types of coverage are available to me? A. Many of the Ford rental departments may offer additional optional coverage that includes Personal Effects Coverage and/or Personal Accident Coverage. If interested please inquire at the rental location when renting your vehicle.
